The club was thrilled to officially open the new patio with regular visitor and Aston Villa FC manager Dean Smith. Dean was joined by the development partners of Ultraline and Doocey Group alongside Mr Captain (Kelvin Warren).
Dean commented “I have been very impressed with the new lounge and patio, it has certainly modernised the clubhouse and you should be very proud.”
Great Barr Golf Club benefits from a spacious club house with a large patio overlooking the practice putting green and the 1st tee. The patio makes for a great viewing platform to watch fellow members embark on their round of golf, or for watching them tee it up on the 18th trying for that elusive final hole birdie.
The old patio had been in place for over 30 years and due to its heavy use over the years, be that by members telling many stories about “the round that could have been”, or by a Bride and Groom enjoying their first few hours together as man and wife overlooking the views of the luscious golf course, it was clear that it was time to carry out an upgrade this space. It was felt that we needed to make it not only more attractive but to also increase it’s capacity to accommodate a healthy membership and further still, to ensure the space conforms to the latest health and safety requirements.
The clubs House and Wines committee set about launching a project to get the work underway. We were delighted to be able to make use of our members and their businesses to bring the dream to life.
Doocey Group took the lead in the demolition of the old patio and the structural concrete for the new glazing system.
The project was then handed to Ultraline to install the slab on stilt patio system alongside the infinity glass which surrounds the patio and allows for uninterrupted views of the practice putting green and 1st tee. It also makes for improved health and safety of the members and visitors to the club.
Ultraline also took care of the purchase and installation of the plants and partitioning that helps separate the patio from the entrance to the pro shop and changing rooms.
The design of the space was made to complement the recent modernisation of the Beacon lounge with the Ultraline minimal glazing system taking centre stage offering great views from both inside and outside of the lounge. The result is a clubhouse, lounge and patio that our members are extremely proud of.
The weather was typically British and challenged the team to hit their deadline, however the project was completed on time over a 4 week period to ensure no events were impacted and the disruptions to the membership was kept to a minimum.
Thankfully the British weather took a turn for the better and it wasn’t long before the patio became the place to be for members after their days golfing endeavours. Captains day in particular was blessed with glorious sunshine and after a day of quality golf it was great to see so many members staying on to enjoy the evening generating a great atmosphere on their new patio, it was a great example of how successful a project like this can have such a positive impact on the membership.
The House and Wines committee were really pleased with the outcome of the initiative and so are our members. The feedback has been fantastic from the membership, we are really pleased to see so many members bring their families down to the club to show off and enjoy the facility, we like to think Great Barr Golf Club is a friendly, welcoming and accessible club and this project has helped in highlighting this.
Our captain Kelvin Warren expresses his thanks to the House and Wines committee for running the project on behalf of the club and commented “Absolutely amazing venue, a credit to GBGC”.
