Junior’s Section

Junior Section

The Junior section at Great Barr GC is seen as an important link to the future of the club. But more importantly our aim is to get young golfers enjoying the game.

We understand that some are more competitive than others, and structure our Junior events with this in mind. We run approximately 20 organised Junior competitions through the year from February to October. Ranging from Medal & Stableford games, knockouts, social matches against other sections of the club, league matches against other junior teams from clubs within the county, through to putting comps etc. No matter what the skill level, we encourage youngsters to come along and have a knock. We run all competitions with 3 divisions, from 3 different tee positions to cater for all abilities and ensure everyone has a chance not only of winning, but firstly of having fun.

Juniors can join at age 9, and can play off a handicap of 54 in our organised competitions. They remain a member of the Junior section until they are age 18, so we really do have a wide range of golfing ability. We regularly see a complete beginner progress through to a single figure county player!

So, whether competitive or social golf is the aim, we are happy just to see young people enjoying the game and will support them throughout their membership of the Junior Section. We hold ‘Golf Mark’ accreditation and our Junior organisers have been DBS checked. We also have support and welfare officers in place to look after our Juniors.

As part of our association to the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs we have the opportunity to promote the 2020 Staffordshire U14 Pathway Coaching Programme for any of our juniors interested in taking their game to the next level please click the link opposite.
